Why TEA?

Truth, Emet, Aletheia

Three words, three languages, many meanings

These words inspire the heart of this ministry.

This is a call to come back to Truth: a term, a state of being, a level of faith that brings deeper meaning to the various passages used in God’s Word.

I wanted to focus on the etymology of truth in the various languages of the Bible to guide our mission. These are the three that God laid on my heart to lay out the way.

Truth – English1

Emet – Hebrew (97 occurrences)

Aletheia – Greek (107 occurrences)2

The Deterioration of Truth and Reemergence of Humanism

There are so many “truths” out there now. Your truth, my truth, their truth – the word has practically become so common place, it’s lost its whole impact.

Truth has become a word used to cut off any type of discussion that’s does not line up with one’s philosophy no matter how minor or major.

Truth has become a word used as an umbrella to cover anything at all – whether it’s actually true or not. As long as it is “truth” to just one single person….well then must be recognized has “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth” to everyone else.

This “truth” is a cover for a religious movement called Humanism that has crept up slowly in the background until it seems to have spread like wildfire in our culture.

Yes, I used the term religious movement. Religious by definition is an adjective relating to or believing in a religion. Religion is a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance.3

Humanism is the religious belief attaching upmost importance of human matters/self over anything divine or supernatural. It holds that human beings should be centered on their potential value and goodness in themselves, focusing on rational thought and science, human needs, and personal fulfillment or individual liberty – the “human experience.”4

Sounds great right? Art, science, loving your neighbor, caring for the earth, and the pursuit of happiness. Starts to sound awfully familiar doesn’t it…

Humanism takes the best things from God’s Word and call in our lives while taking God completely out of the equation – basically, stating we don’t need God, just ourselves and our goodness – SELF.

The “live your truth” movement falls right in with Humanism – focus on yourself, your art, what the science says to you, what your needs are – and anyone who believes adversely to you can take a walk or be met with downright hostility.

But how can you know what the real truth is in a realm where truth is heavily defined by such contradictory thoughts – your needs very well might be different then my needs and your pursuit of your needs may very well harm me or others, however, we have to just “get over it” because that’s your truth and you are allowed to live your truth. How do you justify caring for others then?

We’ll delve more into Humanism in a later post – a religion focused on selfishness – not truth.

Revival of God’s Truth

Israel had their own experience with a surge in Humanism as well as other religions of the time observed by various tribes. The Book of Judges is an account of God’s call to a wandering Israel to draw them back to the Truth.

As Humanism continues to spread through our culture and it’s focus on a varying truth determined by the individual, more and more people are actually turning away from this contradictory and confusing philosophy.

It’s hard to put all your trust in a people who don’t know how to navigate a traffic circle let alone who are confused on whose truth is…well true.

There is a hunger for something, someone, some being that never fails, is fundamentally steady, straight forward – TRUE

God, God’s Word, God’s Spirit is unwavering, unchanging, irrefutable, clear, and shows just how wayward we really are.

Even in science, which is notorious for having individuals who try to refute the truth of God every day – there are several examples of scientists in multiple fields past and present who have held true to their faith or been turned on their path in the face of the irrefutable truth of God’s Word: Robert Boyle (1627-1691); Francis Collins (1950-present); Leonhard Euler (1707-1783); Sir Isaac Newton (1643-1727); George Washington Carver (1864-1943); Mary Anning (1799-1847); and Charles Townes (1915-2015) to name just a few.5

Science is not separate from God – instead proves the truth of God time and time again.

We will delve more into God’s Word, science, past and current events, and more as we walk this path together with truth, faith, and verity.
